Hearst-Castle-12/18/2008 : We visited Hearst Castle, CA (Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument) on 12/18/2008. The day was cloudy and cold, but there was no rain while we were there. We selected an evening tour, offered during the Christmas holiday season. There are docents in period costumes (1930s) who are encountered during tours, adding a special touch to the visit. Official description: The evening tour (tour 5) "allows visitors to experience the Castle at night as one of Mr. Hearst’s own visitors may have. Volunteers from the Living History Program bring the castle to life as you view highlights featured in Tours One, Two, and Four. This tour also allows guests to participate in a newsreel shown that takes place in the theater; taking visitors back to the golden years of the 1930’s. The evening tours are available in the spring and fall only. The evening tour will last approximately two hours and 10 minutes including the bus ride to and from the castle. New-England-0810 : On October 16, 2008 we flew from San Jose, CA to Long Beach, CA and then to Boston, MA to visit the land of colorful foliage - New England in the Fall. We spent most of our time around Hanover, NH visiting our daughter at Dartmouth College, but we also toured around NH and VT to peep at the leaves. We returned via the same route on October 22, 2008. Pajaro-Dunes-Condo-S55-8/17/2008 : Pajaro Dunes is a development along a long beach on Monterey Bay near Moss Landing, CA. The popular Sunset State Beach is adjacent to the north. It's approximately half way between Santa Cruz and Monterey on a long beach and has two sets of condos: Shorebirds to the north and Pelican to the south. We spent the weekend at the Shorebirds complex in condo S55. Both complexes have tennis courts and central facilities, in addition to the beach-front location. Napa-Valley-Wine-Tasting-6/9-10/2008 : On June 9-10, 2008, we toured some wineries in the Napa Valley, CA. We spent the night at the WorldMark condos in Windsor, CA. We visited Stag's Leap Cellars, Clos Du Val Wine Company, and Van Der Hayden the first day, all along the Silverado Trail. On the second day we visited Sterling Vineyards and Rutherford Hill. Golden-Gate-Park-0701 : On 1/20/2007 we took a bus/hiking trip to San Francisco to hike around Golden Gate Park. It was a lovely day that just kept getting better. The Conservatory of Flowers had finally reopened. The Beach Chalet was an excellent ultimate destination, with its frescos and microbrews.
